Where Do Joy First Colour Analysis Consultations Take Place
Personal colour consultations take place at a location in the Ribble Valley confirmed at booking. If you live within 10 miles of Whalley, you can choose to have the session in your home, or to come to Nic's home studio in Barrow. If you'd like Nic to travel to you, that can often be arranged.
Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?
You'll complete a short pre-session questionnaire when you book, which takes around five minutes to complete. If you've not yet taken our Colour Quiz we will ask you to complete that in advance... Beyond that, just come as you are, in minimal or neutral makeup so the draping process is as accurate as possible.
What is the Colour Quiz?
The quiz is a quick way to begin identifying your colour personality type (according to Applied Colour Psychology) before your session. It's free and available here.
What if I need to reschedule?
Sessions are non-refundable. You can easily modify your booking with more than 48 hours notice. We do our best to accommodate last-minute conflicts, but due to the limited nature of availability, cancellations or rescheduling within 48 hours may not be honoured.
Is this related to the Colour Joy course?
Yes. The in-person consultation is an extension of the online Colour Joy digital course, both of which are rooted in Applied Colour Psychology and the Joy First® methodology. Will you tell me colours to avoid?
Colours that aren't as flattering will become clear to us through the process of draping... but we don't outlaw colours or abide by 'hard rules' - only gentle suggestions to achieve more joy from individual colours and harmonious combinations... which you'll learn more about when we're together.
But I do have to say - grey is my 'enemy #1' because it has ZERO positive psychological impact, so if you are like a lot of my clients and you hear my voice in your head and find yourself steering clear from grey from now on, you'll be doing your joy a favour 🥰.
How is this different from a traditional colour analysis session?
Most colour analysis systems slot you into a seasonal type based on your face, and hand you a wallet card. Applied Colour Psychology + our Joy First® methodology take us deeper - starting from your personality and psychological identity, and moving outward. You will end up with a 'season' or a 'type' (or more likely, a blend of types) that is a genuinely useful framework for choosing colour for your wardrobe, your home, and your life... but our aim is to find a bridge between what you look like and what you actually love - that will work for your in practice, long-term.
What is an Identity Dossier?
Your Identity Dossier is the personalised document I create for you after your session, delivered as a digital PDF within 48 hours. It's around 20 pages and it covers your personality type analysis, your aesthetic analysis (with photos of you), your top 10 palette, your full Seaside / Sunshine / Fireside / Starshine palette, multiple curated colour combinations organised by mood (calm, powerful, soothing, sunny), and your bridge colours for navigating other palettes you encounter (like black, gold, or other personality types you live or work alongside).
It also includes a 'Colour Psychology 101' resource to help you pick colours based on how you want to feel, or how you want to be perceived. Your Dossier is designed to be a quick-action AND long-term reference you can reference and refer back-to all the time.
